CYPRUS-ISRAEL /  COOPERATION IN AVIATION SAFETY  AND SEARCH AND RESCUE

With the support of the Ministries of Transport of Cyprus and Israel, the “ Flight Safety Foundation-Mediterranean  (  FSF-MED)”  and the «FISHER  INSTITUTE» of Israel, co-organise in Nicosia on 19/5/2016,  a Conference  on flight safety and search and rescue in the Exclusive Economic Zones  ( EEZ ) of  Cyprus and Israel  . At the Conference  , which will be addressed by the Permanent Secretary  of the Ministry of Transport, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Cyprus,  there will be  wide participation of  a  number experts and high ranking officials  from Cyprus, Israel, Greece and other countries , as well as  from International Organisations such  as the International  Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). 

The objective of the Conference, is the presentation and discussion of   all matters relating to the safety  of  helicopter  flights that will be operating  when the platforms of hydrocarbon exploration in the EEZ of Cyprus and Israel begin, as well as  the further improvement of co-ordination between the countries of  the Eastern Mediterranean, on issues relating to search and rescue. 
In the framework of the Conference, a Memorandum of Cooperation between FSF-MED and the Centre of Co-ordination of Search and Rescue will be signed. In addition FSF-MED will present its 2016 Annual Award to  AEGEAN  Airlines  , for its contribution in the development  of air transport in the Mediterranean.

 In a relevant statement, the Executive Director of FSF-MED Mr. Christos Petrou, mentioned that the Conference is of particular importance, given the  developments in the energy sector in the Eastern Mediterranean region and  the wider cooperation of  Cyprus, Israel and Greece. He added that such activities contribute in a practical way   to the policy of the Cyprus Government as regards the strategic alliances with neighbouring  countries  and they add value to the already exceptional relations between Cyprus and Israel in flight safety  and search and rescue.
